Fees and Rebates
As of 2024, the recommended fee for psychology services by the Australian Psychological Society is $300.
My current fees are set well below this, at $200 per 50-60 minute session. Medicare currently offer a rebate of $96.65 per session, leaving a gap of $103.35 per appointment. However, in the interest of equity and accessibility, I provide a small number of low gap or bulk-billed appointments, assessed on a case by case basis. Please note there may be significant wait times for these appointments.
Available Rebates
Rebates are available under Medicare and your GP or Psychiatrist can assess eligibility:
-
A Mental Health Care Plan allows for up to 10 rebatable sessions per calendar year (6 session initially, plus an additional 4 on review).
-
An Eating Disorders Management Plan allows for up to 40 rebatable sessions in a 1 year period from initiation of your plan. Reviews are required at the 10th, and 30th session by a GP and at the 20th session by a Psychiatrist and GP.
-
A Chronic Disease Management Plan allows for 5 visits per year with a variety of allied health professionals. Please note that the rebate is lower for this plan, at approximately it is $60.00 per session
I also see clients who are funded under the NDIS who are plan or self-managed.
Depending on your level of cover, you may be eligible for rebates through your private health insurer. Please note that each insurer is different and we cannot advise if you will be covered- you will need to speak directly with your insurer. Rebates through your private health cannot be claimed on the same sessions as Medicare rebates.
Medicare Safety Net
The Medicare Safety Net can help lower out of pocket costs for eligible services. Once reached, the amount rebated increases to either 80% of the out of pocket or Extended Medicare Safety Net benefit cap, whichever is lower. The current Safety Net limits for 2024 are:
-
$811.80 for concession card holders and families eligible for Family Tax Benefit Part A
-
$2544.30 for everyone else enrolled in Medicare
